Chaperones
Statham Grove Surgery is committed to providing a safe, respectful and comfortable environment where patients and staff can be confident that best practice is followed at all times. The safety, dignity and wellbeing of our patients and staff are of paramount importance.
All patients are entitled to request a suitably trained chaperone for any intimate consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. A chaperone is a trained member of staff who will be present during the examination to support both the patient and the clinician.

Patients may choose to have a family member, friend or carer present for support. However, friends or family members cannot act as the formal chaperone. A trained member of staff will be offered as the chaperone in accordance with our policy.
Wherever possible, we ask that you request a chaperone at the time of booking your appointment so that arrangements can be made and your appointment is not delayed. If this is not possible, you may request a chaperone at any time during your consultation. We will make every effort to provide one at the time of request. If a trained chaperone is not available, it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment unless the examination is clinically urgent. In such circumstances, this will be discussed with you and documented in your medical record.
Your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations in accordance with our chaperone policy.
If you would like to see a copy of our full Chaperone Policy or have any questions, please speak to the Practice Manager.
